<p>PURPOSE:To prepare a terpene alcohol useful as a raw material of perfumery and pharmaceuticals, etc. by the rearrangement of an ether compound such as isopentenyl prenyl ether, etc. in the presence of an aluminum compound such as lower alkylaluminum sulfonate, etc. CONSTITUTION:The compund of formula III (both R<1> and R<3> are H or one of R<1> and R<3> is H and the other together with R<2> form a bond; R<2> is H or together with R<1> or R<3> form a bond; j is 0, 1 or 2; the dotted lines represent the presence of a double bond at eigther side) is prepared by the rearrangement of the ether compound of formulaIin the presence of a compound of formula II (R is hydrocarbon group; X and Y are univalent acid residue; Z is SO4, O or S; l is 0, 1 or 2; m and n are 0, 1, 2 or 3; p is 1 or 2; q is 0 or 1) at 0-100 deg.C. The reaction is preferably carried out in a solvent such as methylene chloride, and the amount of the compound of formula II is 2-4mol per 1mol of the compound of formula I.</p> |
