PURPOSE:To chill the surfaces of cast iron products by irradiating laser beams thereto. CONSTITUTION:Laser beams are irradiated to the surface of cast iron products, for example, cam shafts, lifter valves, gears, etc. in engines. Any laser having outputs that can heat the surface layers of the cast iron products to a molten or half-molten state can be used and gaseous lasers using CO2, He, N2, etc. are more preferable. If the laser beams are removed after the surface layers are melted or half-melted, the surfaces are chilled by a self-cooling effect. The thickness of the chilled surface layers is 0.05-0.4mm.. |
