A variable venturi carburettor with a carburettor housing, a float chamber and a main fuel nozzle is equipped with a chamber, through which fuel flows, arranged in proximity to the main fuel nozzle for cooling of the main fuel nozzle and of the carburettor housing in that the fuel delivered from a fuel pump to the float chamber is fed wholly or partially through the cooling chamber. By means of this arrangement according to the invention, an increase in the temperature of the fuel in the main fuel nozzle is prevented, thereby preventing the occurrence of fuel vapour in idling operating of the engine and any influencing of the rate of fuel flow in the idling fuel duct. Fluctuations of the air-fuel ratio when the engine is in idling operation are thereby suppressed. <IMAGE>
