<p>Woven fabric of natural fibres is submitted to selvedge treatment, where yarns or a film of heat-fusible material are brought to the selvedges and submitted to heating means to achieve fusion of the material around the weft yarns to seal them. Prodn. speed of the fabric is increased, as the unravelling of the selvedge is eliminated. The selvedge becomes resistant to further physical and chemical processing. On leaving the loom, the selvedge has a smooth, straight appearance which allows the fabric to be sold without further treatment.</p> |
