PURPOSE:To simplify the shape of the metallic plate of a septate polarizer consisting of a square waveguide and the tapered metallic plate and to shorten the designing time and work time by adding a phase shifter to the square waveguide and making phase corrections. CONSTITUTION:The tapered metallic plate 2 is provided dividing the section of the square waveguide 1 into two rectangular sections which are equal in area. By selecting the shape of the metallic plate 2 adequately, a clockwise and a counterclockwise polarized wave incident to the opening 5 of the waveguide 1 are polarized into linear polarized waves to the right opening 6 and left opening 7 of the divided waveguides 3 and 4. On the other hand, a linear polarized wave incident to the opening 6 generates a clockwise polarized wave at the opening 5 and a linear polarized wave incident to the opening 7 generates a counterclockwise polarized wave at the opening 5. A dielectric plate 8 is fitted to the metallic plate 2 perpendicular or in parallel in the center of the waveguide 1 to form a phase shifter and both ends are tapered to reduce influence upon an input VSWR. The amount of phase correction is adjusted by the length of the dielectric plate 8. Thus, the design and adjustment are facilitated. |
