A multi-stage turbine has an inlet disc assembly which feeds the working medium to an outlet disc assembly mounted on the same shaft. The assemblies are fitted between web plates which pass through the interior of a turbine casing, and the medium enters the casing and passes to the inlet assembly via nozzles in a nozzle ring arrangement connected to the casing. Each disc assembly comprises spaced discs with webs which guide the working medium first of all through the inlet assembly and then the outlet assembly. A central flow channel in the assemblies and in the region of the shaft carries the medium from the inlet to the outlet assembly. The medium flows out via outlets on the underside of the casing. In one version, the disc assemblies are conical and, as viewed from the side, the assemblies with the web plates have an X-shaped cross-section. In another embodiment, the inlet assembly is flat and the outlet assembly is conical and the casing of both embodiments is shaped in such a way that low losses and a maximum of strength are obtained. The nozzles can be arranged convergently/divergently and in an accumulation space situated adjoining the circumference of the inlet assembly.
