Machine for filling tubular casings with pasty filling material, in particular for filling sausage casings with sausage meat, and for closing the casing, with a filling pipe, from which the filling material emerges under pressure during the filling process and from the outside of which a casing can be stripped off via a casing brake, and with a closing device which forms in the closure region a limited passage opening for the filled casing. In order that casing calibres which are greater than the diameter of the passage opening can also be processed, an outer pipe, which surrounds the filling pipe and the casing to be stripped off the latter and is axially displaceable in relation to the closing device, is provided with a control device which stops the outer pipe in the passage opening during the filling process and outside the same during the closure process. Expediently, the filling pipe is also axially displaceable, in order that during the filling process it projects at least as far as the outer pipe, can be removed from the passage opening for the closing process and finally can carry out the volume compensation during the displacement of the filling material out of the closure region of the casing.
