The invention starts from a handtool for lifting manhole covers (7), a so-called manhole hook which consists of a shank (1) with a handle (3) at one end and a cross piece (4) at the other end. According to the invention, the handle-side section (2) of the shank is designed as an impact weight so that stuck manhole covers (7) can consequently be released. The one-piece handtool preferably has a weight of about 5 kg and is about 60 cm long, and the handle (3) is designed for two-handed operation. <IMAGE>
