A housing (42) for turbines, especially exhaust turbines for driving turbo-chargers for internal-combustion engines, is proposed having a scroll section (44) which encloses the turbine rotor and an inlet section (46) which is designed curved in a predetermined manner. This inlet section (46) connects the scroll section (44) to the exhaust manifold of the internal-combustion engine. The curved housing section (46) has an angle change of at least 30 DEG between the inlet (48) and the connecting point (51) to the scroll section. The unobstructed space in this inlet housing section has either a constant cross-sectional area, or a cross-sectional area which decreases in the flow direction. Above all, the curved section has a constantly decreasing radius of curvature from the inlet to the connecting point (51) to the scroll. The arrangement is configured such that a generally even speed profile of the exhaust gases at the inlet of the inlet housing section (46) is converted into a vortex speed profile at the inlet of the scroll section (44) which brings about an even circumferential flow of the exhaust gases at the circumference of the turbine rotor (56) so that greater effectiveness of the turbine is achieved. <IMAGE> |
