The invention relates to a grinding tool for the machining of brittle media, in particular for the fine machining of glass and quartz, consisting of a body set with diamond pellets. Here, the intermediate spaces between the diamond pellets are filled with a casting resin in such a way that the grinding tool has a closed surface, which casting resin is enriched with fillers, such as, for example, diatomite, and is provided with admixtures having a stock-removal effect. This makes it possible for not only the diamond pellets but also the intermediate spaces to participate in the machining process. Due to the continually present closed tool surface, in particular optical components cemented to bodies and having different heights can be machined. Apart from a reduction in the machining times during the grinding and polishing processes, the use of the grinding tool enables the number of machines required for the preliminary machining of the workpieces to be reduced. <IMAGE>
