The invention relates to a device for filling preferably cylindrical delivery containers with liquid or pasty filling material, consisting of a filling station with a filling pipe which, by relative movement in relation to the delivery container, penetrates into the latter, and with a prechamber which is connected to the filling pipe and contains the filling material, which is characterised in that there is provided in the filling pipe a telescopic pipe which is movable to and fro coaxially therewith, which is at its upper end connected to the prechamber and has a piston guided sealingly in relation to the filling pipe, and which at its lower end is arranged to be capable of being pushed out through an opening in an annular plate covering the filling pipe end, and that there is provided between the piston and the annular plate a return spring, the spring force of which, allowing for the additional frictional forces of the telescopic pipe, is lower than the filling pressure of the filling material.
