PURPOSE:To eliminate biting-in at the starting and finishing times of grinding by furnishing a pressure adjusting device on the way of an upper air pressure circuit and changing over a plurality of failure cut circuits installed at said pressure adjusting device by the use of a changeover sequence according to the grinding conditions. CONSTITUTION:A pressure adjusting device 5 is provided with an over-balance pressure changeover circuit, a pressure changeover circuit incl. a speed controller, and a bypass changeover circuit for bypassing said speed controller. Accordingly the pressure upstream a cylinder 6 is boosted by over-balance circuit to the pressure of over-balanced portion and switched to the pressure changeover circuit followed by mild boosting to the pressure while the grinding wheel 9 is being sunk. Now the grinding is started. This will eliminates biting-in at the starting time of grinding (at the time of landing). During grinding, switching is made into the bypass changeover circuit, and grinding is made with specified pressure. At the finishing time of grinding, an upper air pressure circuit is released, so that the grinding wheel is heaved gradually by lower air pressure circuit, which will hinder biting-in at the time of taking off.
