The use of propellent-charge projectiles entails disadvantages (reduction of the firing accuracy, endangering the area in front) which are to be decreased by means of the invention. For this, the muzzle of a smooth or rifled high-powered barrel weapon is preceded by a muzzle attachment which is designed as a decelerator for the purpose of substantial braking, at the same time with a reshaping of a propellent charge consisting of a light, tough and high-strength material. The said disadvantages are appreciably decreased, and to be seen as advantages are, in particular, the improvement in firing accuracy as the result of the prevention of separation faults between the projectile and propellent charge, the elimination of the endangering of the area in front, brought about by the very short flight path of the braked propellent charge, and the great reduction in the weapon recoil as a result of the impact of the propellent charge on the decelerator. The muzzle attachment can be used likewise for fin-stabilized or spin-stabilized propellent-charge projectiles, and combination with muzzle brakes and the like can be carried out without difficulty.
