PURPOSE:To obtain economical and stable shading compensating function, by providing a shading compensating screen between an original plane and a light source. CONSTITUTION:A fluorescent tube 6 is placed toward the main scanning direction under the plane of original 1a. The shading compensating screen 10 is provided between the plane 1a and the tube 6. The straight line prolonged toward the main scanning direction of the plane 1a is formed on an image sensor 8 with a lens 2. The screen 10 is formed with a diffusion transmitting medium 11 and a positive transmission medium 12 in mosaic. The light passing through the screen 10 from the tube 6 is attenuated considerably around the optical axis and scarcely attenuated around the circumference.
