Case 5103 A device suitable for use in collecting viscous or semi-solid material and particularly for use in the recovery of spilt heavy fuel oil or viscous water-in-oil emulsions comprises a cover adapted to fit over the open end of a container, e.g. an oil drum, which has: a) a seal (16) between the cover and the container, b) an air outlet (3) which is connectable to means (12) for withdrawing air from the container (13) in order to reduce the pressure inside the container, c) an inlet (5) through which material to be recovered may pass through the cover into the container, d) a vent (4) through which air may pass in order to equalise the pressures inside and outside the container, e) a means (7,8,9,10,11 and 19) for closing off the vent (4), which means is adapted for opening the vent if either the container is full or the pressure inside the container falls below a pre-determined value. |
