Novel dihalogenated steroids of the formula <IMAGE> in which X represents methylene or an alpha -oriented methyl group together with a hydrogen atom and R represents an alkyl group having a maximum of 6 carbon atoms, and their 1,2-dehydro derivatives, which can be manufactured by conventional processes, possess a high inflammation-inhibiting activity and can be used as anti-inflammatory agents. In addition, they also act as valuable intermediates for the manufacture of 6,9,21-trihalo cortocosteroids having a high anti-inflammatory activity. |
