A PROCESS AND AN APPARATUS FOR AGGLOMERATING LOOSE MATERIAL

In the process, the bulk material particles agglomerate to give larger particles under the action of an agglomerating fluid. The agglomerate formation takes place in a rotating drum 1 which has a perforated inner surface 4 and in which the bulk material is tumbled. At the same time, the tumbled bulk material is loosened by a gas stream passing through the perforation. A turbulent movement effected by the gas stream is thus superposed on the rolling movement of the bulk material. The properties of the agglomerate can be varied within a wide range by adjusting the speed of rotation and the intensity of the gas stream.
