PURPOSE:To increase undulated height of a bellow shape and apply tightening pressure to a plate group, by forming a battery jar wall located in the layer- building direction of a plate in the plate group to the laterally undulated bellow shape and pressing a battery jar after the plate group is inserted. CONSTITUTION:Spacers 2 are arranged to both end sides in the plate layer-built direction of a plate group 1 in a lead storage battery, and the group 1 is inserted into a battery jar 3 whose walls 4, 5 are formed to a laterally undulated bellow shape. Then the jar 3 is pressed in the plate layer-built direction to increase undulated height of the bellow shape of the walls 4, 5 and apply tightening pressure to the group 1. And then the walls are jointed by thermal welding or the like to a battery jar bottom 6 and cover 7 substantially not extended and contracted, thus the lead storage battery is completed. Accordingly, during use of the battery, large tightening pressure is applied to the group 1 to eliminate occurrence of softening and falling of an active material due to contraction of the active material in a positive plate, and deterioration of the battery can be prevented. |
