PURPOSE:To reduce storage capacity, by omitting common characters in words when words stored in order in an electronic dictionary have common characters in beginnings. CONSTITUTION:A word is stored in an ROM in the standardized state. One data of the ROM consists of 8 bits, and alphabets (upper-case and lower-case), numbers, phonetic symbols, Katakana (square forms of Japanese syllabary), special symbols, etc. are stored. The spelling of the word is stored in an area 1 of the ROM, and its part of speech, modified forms, idioms, etc. are stored in an area 2 and following areas. When words in the area 1 have N-number of same characters in beginnings, these words are regarded as one block, and these N-number of characters are omitted in the beginning of each word. Thus, the storage capacity is reduced.
|
