PURPOSE:To control the temperature of lubricating oil properly and safely by an arrangement wherein the lubricating oil flowing through an oil cooler is mixed with that which does not pass through the oil cooler through a controlling valve, and the quantity of the lubricating oil which does not pass through the oil cooler is reduced to zero at the time of malfunction of a control valve associated therewith. CONSTITUTION:The lubricating oil discharged by a lubricating oil pump 4 flows through a discharge flow path 11 of an oil cooler 1 and a by-pass flow path 8, and then the divided flow streams are mixed in a predetermined ratio in a control valve leading to an oil filter 2. The control valve 12 comprises a spool 14 having lands 15 and 16, and a spring 17 adapted to exert a thrust on the spool 14. The arrangement is made such that when an actuator 13 gets out of order and can not apply an actuating force to the spool 14 the spring 17 serves to block an outlet port 18 of the bypass flow path 8. Further, a signal generated by an oil temperature detector 10 and a signal generated by an engine cooling water temperature detector 9 are transmitted to a computor 23 which is connected with the actuator 13 to control the degree of opening of the control valve 12 whereby keeping the temperature of the lubricating oil in a main oil gallery 3. |
