PURPOSE:To read out handwriting characters written with an optional character pitch by specifying character pitch data in format control data on the unit of length. CONSTITUTION:The user of an OCR specifies a character pitch in a character field through an input device in an external controlling device 1. When the leading bit S of a data F3 indicating the character pitch of format control data FCD is ''1'' and ''0'' respectively, the pitch is specified at every bit S1-S3 in milimeters and inches respectively on one digit basis. After completing the specification, the FCD from the device 1 is stored in a format data storing circuit 3. When a reading-out command is applied from the device 1 to a control circuit 2, the circuit 2 reads out the FCD from the circuit 3 and sends the information of a line to be recognized to a recognition circuit 4. The circuit 4 takes out a character pattern on one character basis by the character pitch specifying data based upon the data F3 to recogniza the character and the recognized result is temporally stored in an answer recording circuit 5 to send to the device 1. |
