Improved process for the production of 2-[4-(2-thiazolyloxy)phenyl]propionic acid which comprises methylating the isopropyl, sec-butyl, tert-butyl or benzhydryl ester of 2-[4-(2-thiazolyloxy)phenyl]acetic acid with methyl bormide in dimethylformamide at -5 to 5 DEG C in the presence of powdered potassium hydroxide and hydrolyzing the ester group with sodium hydroxide at 0 - 70 DEG C in an aqueous alcohol solution. |
