PURPOSE:To make it possible to detect the development of blackout in a black liquid recovery boiler in an early stage and without failure by collecting with photo-fibers and multiplexing lights emitted from a plurlaity of primary air ports in order to judge the state of each port at one position. CONSTITUTION:Black port sensors 9-1-9-n using a light receiving element are mounted to a wind box 8 corresponding to air ports 2-1-2-n which open to the combustion chamber 1 of a black liquid recovery boiler. The range of surveillance of the black port sensors 9-1-9-n is set up to be narrow so as not to detect the light in the combustion chamber 1 which is emitted through a primary air port adjacent to corresponding primary air port. When a black port is discovered, it is displayed on a display device 29 to show which air port developed black port by changing the display color, etc. and an air port cleaner 24 is operated to improve the circulation of primary air to boost combus tion there and elimination of the black area is promoted.
