A silver/tin compound produced by internal oxidation for electrical contact materials containing 3 to less than 5 % by weight of tin is improved in relation to the internal oxidation rate and, consequently, in relation to its contact resistance by the addition of 0.01 to 0.1 % by weight of bismuth. The compound may contain 0.01 to 0.5 % by weight of one or more elements of the iron family.
