Disclosed is a chain (20) and sprocket (26,27) transmission in which an endless chain (20) composed of alternate inner links (C) and outer links (D) runs around a drive sprocket (26) and a driven sprocket (27). To uniformize and reduce the amount of wear and heat occurring, during running, at each link-to-link connection, each inner link is made longer (PI) than, and each outer link is made shorter (Ps) than, the tooth pitch (Po) of the sprocket teeth.
