In a venting device for a compressed-air cylinder, the piston (3) of the compressed-air cylinder is guided in an axially movable manner on the piston rod (5), the movement of the piston (3) being limited at one end by a stop ring (17) and at the opposite end by a locking ring (19). The restoring spring (7) of the compressed-air cylinder acts on the piston (3) in such a way that the piston is axially displaced on the piston rod either by the action of the restoring spring or, on the other side, by the admission of pressure in the primary space (31) and in the process comes to bear against the stop ring (17) in a sealing manner when a predetermined pressure is reached in the primary space. For sealing purposes, the piston (3) carries an O-ring (23) at the end face facing the stop ring. If this O-ring lifts from the stop ring upon appropriate axial displacement of the piston, a connection is immediately made between the primary space and the secondary space in such a way that, when the piston is displaced in such a way as to increase its volume, the secondary space is adequately vented in order to prevent a vacuum from arising. <IMAGE>
