The invention relates to an electronic spirit level with an inclination measuring device, a display device and an adjusting device for presetting a desired inclined position. To obtain the greatest possible accuracy of adjustment and measurement, the invention provides that a conventional bubble level with gas bubble is used as inclination measuring device which is mounted on a disc or the like which is supported rotatably in the housing and can be adjusted to a rotational position corresponding to the desired inclined position by means of the adjusting device, that the axis of rotation of the disc or the like is directed parallel to the area to be measured and transversely to the longitudinal direction of the housing, that the bubble level is directed tangentially outside the axis of rotation or disc and is directed parallel to the area to be measured of the housing in the zero position, and that a light transmitter and a light receiver are used as switching device and are arranged on the disc on both sides of the bubble level in such a manner that they emit the output signals for controlling the display device in the centre position and/or the two end positions of the gas bubble.
