According to the main application P311202.1-35, a meter adapter (2) which is equipped with a microcomputer (5) is coupled to the kilowatt-hour meter (1). The meter adapter can be connected to different meter types with the aid of a switch (10). Using another switch (11), various tariffing levels can be set and, finally, a third switch (12) can be used for taking into consideration a number of different weighting levels. Display devices (14, 15, 22) display both the power with higher weighting and various operating states. According to the additional application, the object is to create a device for checking the operation of the meter adapter (2). The solution consists in an additional electromechanical meter (23) which indicates the energy actually used. This makes it possible to compare the values of the kilowatt-hour meter (1) and of the additional meter (23) with one another. If the two values are equal, it can be assumed that the weighted output on the meter (14) is correct. <IMAGE>
