Electrical lamp with a vessel seal constructed as a crimp

The vessel seal of a lamp vessel end constructed as a crimp (2) has 0.2 to 0.4 times the length (L) of the lamp vessel diameter (D). The crimp (2) is in this case provided with depressions which are arranged directly in the boundary region of the crimped glass to the thickened centre part (6) surrounding the pump tube (4). The depressions preferably have the shape of conical blind holes (7) which are tangential to the pump tube (4) and whose depth is somewhat more than half the crimp thickness. Other depressions are constructed as grooves which run parallel and/or at right angles to the lamp longitudinal axis in the surface of the crimp. The depressions produce a gas-tight vessel seal which is particularly suitable for highly mechanised production of incandescent lamps and discharge lamps. <IMAGE>
