EMULSION COPOLYMERS, THEIR METHOD OF PRODUCTION, AND THEIR USE

The novel emulsion copolymers are prepared by emulsion copolymerisation of unsaturated esters and (partially) etherified N-methylol(meth)acrylamide and/or N-methylol(meth)allyl carbamate in the presence of selected compounds as emulsifiers and in the presence of higher fatty alcohols. Fibre material, in particular textile material, treated, in particular coated, with the novel emulsion copolymers does not exhibit any swelling on contact with water (known as "white swelling"), does not have any tendency toward "writing" and does not exhibit any fracture of the film when crumpled together (known as "stress whitening").
