PURPOSE:To prevent outside seawater, etc., from penetrating into a crank chamber by providing a compensator for keeping the pressure in an oil reservoir provided between two sealing members equal to the external pressure or slightly higher than said external pressure. CONSTITUTION:The upper drain chamber 1b of a cross head 6 is provided for seawater while the lower crank chamber 1a is provided for lubricating oil, and a compensator B for boosting the oil is arranged in an oil reservoir 1d provided between two sealing rings 15, 16 for separating said chambers. The pressure in said oil reservoir 1d is always kept slightly higher than that of external seawater, and leaked lubricating oil is filled up. When the pressure in a compensator A equipped with the crank chamber 1a and a connecting hole is made larger than that in the compensator B, there is no direct mixing of the seawater into the crank chamber 1a. |
