PURPOSE:To follow a stuffing box to the axial shifting of a propeller shaft, by coupling the stuffing box to a stern tube through a flexible pipe. CONSTITUTION:A stuffing box 4 is arranged at the inboard side coaxially with a stern tube 3 where said stuffing box 4 is constructed with an inner housing 8, and an outer housing 9 secured to a propeller shaft 1 and packings 10, 19 and a bearing 90 arranged between them. The stern tube 3 and the outer housing 9 are applied with a rubber pipe 5 to connect them. Consequently the stuffing box 4 can move in the direction perpendicular with the shaft of the propeller shaft 1, thereby it will follow to the shaft shifting due to the rotation of the propeller shaft 1 resulting in the elimination of the loosening work of the packing. |
