PURPOSE:To improve strength, abrasion resistance, lubricity, thermal cracking resistance, stripping-off resistance, etc. by forming a coating layer wherein metal and carbon fibers or graphite fibers, etc. are combined to one body on the surface of a copper plate of a casting mold for continuous casting in contact with an ingot. CONSTITUTION:A composite coating layer 2 wherein carbon fibers, graphite fibers or their blended fibers as a reinforcing material are combined with a matrix metal phase is provided on the surface 1a of a copper plate 1 of a casting mold to be used for continuous casting on the side in contact with an ingot. Cu, Ni, Cr, etc. alone having a relatively high m.p. or alloys, etc. consisting basically thereof are used for the matrix metal. The mechanical properties of the copper plate of the casting mold are thus improved, heat conductivity is improved and the use for a long period of time is made possible. |
