PURPOSE:To prevent the generation of rough surfaces and flaws on the surfaces of the rolls in a continuous heat treatment furnace for steel strips by melt- spraying coating layers which consist essentially of chromium carbides and have excellent heat resistance and high temp. abrasion resistance on the surfaces of said rolls. CONSTITUTION:Powder compsns. contg. 60-90wt% chromium carbide Cr3C2 and consisting of the balance Ni-Cr alloys or Co are melt-sprayed on the surfaces of in-furnace rolls consisting of heat resistant cast steel for heat treatment of rolled steel strips in a continuous heat treatment furnace. The melt-sprayed layers formed by the above-mentioned method have heat resistance and abrasion resistance at high temp. with the high hardness by the Cr3C2 and the high adhesion by the Ni-Cr alloy and Co, are free from the generation of rough surfaces and flaws by the steel strips during working, and do not require surface polishing or exchange with fresh rolls for a long period of time. |
