PURPOSE:To apply voltage without using corona charging, to expose and then develop an image forming element, by providing isolated conductors for forming an image element, a photoconductive layer changed in conductivity by light irradiation and persisting this change after the irradiation, and electrodes. CONSTITUTION:A light-transmitting electrode 3 is connected with a shading electrode 4 through a power supply 7. Voltage is impressed and in that state, imagewise exposure is made from the side of a transparent support. Since the light incident on the electrode 4 is shaded and does not reach a persistent photoconductive layer 5, resistivity R1 in the parts of the layer 5 between the electrode 4 and an isolated conductor 6 does not change. On the exposed parts, since the light incident on the light-transmitting electrode 3 reaches the layer 5, resistor R2 between the electrode 3 and the conductor 6 decreases, and the conductor 6 also decreases in potential. On the other hand, on the unexposed parts, R1, R2 both do not change, and potential of the conductors 6 does not change, so a potential image is formed on the exposed parts. The image thus formed is developed by the usual electrophotographic method, and transferred to transfer paper. |
