MANUFACTURE OF PREFORM ROD FOR SINGLE-POLARIZATION OPTICAL FIBER

摘要

PURPOSE:To simply obtain the titled preform rod by deposition layers of glass oxide powder on the side of a rodlike base material contg. SiO2 by a chemical vapor deposition method and by vitrifying the layers. CONSTITUTION:A rodlike base material 7 provided with at least a layer for a core ad contg. SiO2 as an essential component is attached to a holder 6 in a nonrotative state. Layers 8A, 8B of glass oxide powder are deposited on the side of the base material 7 in the longitudinal direction by a chemical vapor deposition method. The layers 8a, 8B are then treated at a high temp. to vitrify the unvitrified parts. By this method the titled preform rod is simply obtd.
