A rotary piston machine unit according to the invention has four pistons rotating alternately faster and slower in relation to one another in a common working chamber and two inlet and two exhaust ports for the working chamber. Inlet and exhaust ports alternate with one another at predefined varying intervals in the direction of rotation of the pistons. The unit includes a transmission with elliptical and possibly additional circular gearwheels controlling the alternating speeds of rotation. The unit can be used as a pump, compressor or engine for hydraulic and/or pneumatic systems and, in relation to the prior art, is characterised by a high efficiency with low production costs and wear.
