In a vane compressor, the rotor (1) and the two end plates (7, 8), which form part of the pump casing (5) housing the rotor (1), are made of aluminium or an aluminium alloy. Thin-walled metal elements (9, 10) of iron or steel are positioned between the rotor (1) and the end plates (7, 8) and prevent direct contact between these parts. In the end plates (7, 8), delivery pressure passages (7a, 7b, 8a, 8b) are provided to transmit delivery pressure, in order to load the thin-walled metal elements (9, 10) with delivery pressure in such a way, that these metal elements (9, 10) in operation are deflected into close contact against the lateral faces (1c, 1d) of the rotor (1), and very effective sealing against leakage is obtained between the rotor (1) and the thin-walled metal elements (9, 10). <IMAGE>
