The invention relates to a process and an apparatus for the electrostatic application of pulverulent plastics in the technology of organic surface treatments. The plastics flow in the form of a powder/gas mixture through a tube of dielectric material and are thereby charged. The invention consists in that gas is used for charging which is sucked out of the powder/gas mixture by ejector action of the flow of the vortexing gas. The process of the invention is executed by means of an apparatus for executing the process of the electrostatic application of powders, consisting of a feed nozzle for the vortex gas, an outlet for powder supply, and an earthed electrode. This apparatus is distinguished in that the nozzle of the vortexing gas in the mixing chamber opens into the diffuser of the charging tube which is situated in an external tube of the arrangement such that an annulus is formed between the external diameter of the charging tube and the internal diameter of the external tube.
