Microwave appliance with a heating output source (2) for cooking foods in a heating space (1), with a gas sensor (7) which is arranged in the flow path (5) of the outgoing air flowing out of the heating space (1). For the purpose of compensating the disturbance by gases and vapours in the incoming air, which influences the gas sensor output voltage, a further gas sensor (8) is arranged in the incoming-air path (6) to the heating space (1) and both gas sensors (7, 8) are connected up in a bridge circuit (13), the output voltage appearing at the bridge circuit (13) being processed in a control device (10) which is a microprocessor. <IMAGE>
