The machine for transforming energy from a hydraulic stream into useful power comprises a frame (201) carried by a floating wheel (202) provided with blades (203). The wheel (202) which steeps in the stream (C) is intended to drive a mechanical receiver such as a generator (211). The machine is connected to the bank by a cable thereby enabling the drifting of the machine with respect to the stream (C). The hook (343) may take various positions for which the shaft (XX) of the wheel (202) tends to take an inclined position with respect to the stream (C). Application in particular to the production of electrical power by undertaking only reduced arrangements of the water stream.
