PURPOSE:To prevent transfer defects, carrying detects, etc., by providing a freely rotatable conductive roller slightly apart from an image carrier on the transfer material entrance side of the space between a transfer charger and the image carrier and applying a bias voltage having the same polarity as a transfer power source to this roller. CONSTITUTION:A transfer paper 2 is carried to a transfer region along a guide plate 13; and since the bias of a rollor 3 is zero potential before the transfer paper 2 reaches the roller 3 provided in the space between a photosensitive drum 1 and a transfer charger 10, a floating toner and a slight toner stuck onto the photosensitive drum 1 are prevented from being stuck to the roller to generate the dirt on the rear face. A positive DC bias voltage having the same polarity as a transfer power source 12 is applied to the roller 3 just before the transfer paper 2 enters into the transfer region; and thus, the generation of the transfer defect is prevented especially at a high humidity, and the generation of the carrying defect is prevented. |
