PURPOSE:A gamma-ray sensor having a scintillator of single crystals from gadolinium silicate, activated with cerium, and expressed by a specific formula and a photosensor for sensing the light emitted therefrom, a short attenuation time of fluorescent light and a high absorption coefficient of gamma-rays. CONSTITUTION:A gamma-ray sensor having a scintillator grown form single crystals of a gadolinium compound, activated with cerium, and expressed by the formula Gd2(1-x-y)Ln2xCe2ySiO3 (Ln is one or more elements selected from the group consisting of Y or La; 0<=x<=0.5; 1X10<-3=y<=0.1) from a melt, etc. by the Czochralsky method and a photosensor for sensing the light emitted therefrom.
