Various processes relating to the in-situ retorting of oil shale are claimed. - One process comprises rubblising a discrete bed of raw oil shale and then heating the bed to pyrolyse the kerogen in the shale, heating being effected by supplying a hot retorting gas in such a way that the pressure in the bed cycles between high and low values. - Another process comprises injecting ait into a spent (previously retorted shale bed to cause combustion of char, thereby heating the bed and generating flue gas; discharging the flue gas; injecting a retorting gas; and transferring the thus heated retorting gas to a raw shale bed to supply heat for retorting.(.0/9) |
