PURPOSE:To prevent surely the leakage of a couplant, by providing a seal member consisting of an elastic material in the circumferential edge part of a head and supplying the couplant to an enclosed space and attracting and recovering the couplant through the seal member. CONSTITUTION:A moving mechanism 4 moves a probe head 3 in circumferential and axial directions of a pipe 1 along a welding line 2 by a controller 18. The controller 18 turns an arm 8 by the signal of a copy detector 17 and controls the arm 8 so that the head 3 is always brought closely into contact with the surface of the pipe 1. The couplant in a tank 37 is supplied to a supply entrance 34 through a hose 35 and is supplied between an ultrasonic probe 21 and the surface of the pipe 1. The supplied couplant is prevented from leaking to the external by a seal member 38 consisting of an elastic material having a water absorbing property and remains in the space enclosed with the seal member 38. This couplant is sucked through a water suction hole 42, a contacting water suction part 40, and air holes of a water suction part 39 and is sucked to a sucking mechanism 48 through a sucking chamber 44 and a hose 47 and is filtered and is returned to the tank 37. |
