When making and fitting a new wooden door into the door-frame of an old building, the door is usually made oversize and skilled planing work is needed to make it fit, because of the difficulty of keeping a uniform gap round the edges. This measuring framework overcomes that problem. The framework is placed in the existing doorway, and L-shaped 'feelers' are extended at several points along the top, bottom and sides of the framework, until they are all just in contact with the frame. The frame can then be pulled out and the height deviations measured at either edge, and the width measured at several heights. An additional feeler in the top of the frame measures the height of the middle of the door frame. The frame-work is made in two sections, which can be folded together to make the device portable.
|
