The present invention relates to a method for filling hydraulic fluid to a predetermined level 17 as needed, in a hydro-pneumatic spring cylinder 1. The method is characterised in that a) the piston rod 6 and the cylinder housing 5 are fixed in a predetermined position relative to each other, b) the gas pressure in the cylinder is released until atmospheric pressure, c) hydraulic fluid is filled to a level in the cylinder, situated above a free opening 25a of a level tube 25 mounted in the cylinder, d) the surplus fluid is removed from the cylinder, and e) the interior of the cylinder is filled with gas to a desired working pressure. The invention also relates to a hydro-pneumatic spring cylinder for working the method, the cylinder being characterised in that a level tube 25 is arranged inside the cylinder, communicating with the surrounding atmosphere via a connectible opening 24 and having an internal free opening 25a, the level of which in the spring cylinder 1 corresponds to a desired surface level 17 of the hydraulic fluid in the cylinder when its cylinder housing and piston rod are at a predetermined position relative to each other. According to the invention, it is possible to fill the cylinder 1 to correct level 17 and correct gas pressure in order to obtain desired springing characteristics without the need for dismounting the cylinder from the vehicle in which it is installed. <IMAGE> |
