A moulded plastic load-carrying member is secured to a supporting frame by integrally formed resilient clamps to produce a seat or chair. As shown, a flexible polythene sheet 1a, 1b has an integrally formed resilient peripheral clamping channel 3 which detachably engages a tubular metal chair frame. In another form, Fig. 6, an injection moulding of semi-rigid plastic is formed with a thickened or otherwise more rigid curved rim 8a -which clamps on tubular metal frame 7. The hoop 7d is circular but other shapes such as oval, triangular and square with rounded corners are referred to. Alternatively, integrally moulded resilient clamping blocks may be formed on a seat and back unit of sufficient rigidity for the back rest to be self supporting (Fig. 4, not shown). The blocks detachably engage a tubular metal stand having upright stubs to support the rear of the seat and the base of the back rest. |
