PURPOSE:To provide a titled alloy member which is highly resistant to abrasion at high temp. and lends itself to practicability for a long period of time by providing an Si-diffused intermediate layer and a surface-hardened layer adhered firmly and tightly to the surface of a substrate through an inner layer thereby forming an Si layer as an outer layer which is highly resistant to abrasion at high temp. CONSTITUTION:An inside layer of 1-10mum average layer thickness consisting of single or double layers of >=1 kind among carbides, nitrides and oxides of Ti is provided on the surface of a substrate of general super hard alloys having a hard layer and a bond layer. For example, TiC, TiN, etc. are used as the inside layer. An Si-diffused intermediate layer of 0.5-5mum average layer thickness consisting of the inside layer diffused therein with Si is provided on the inside layer. An outside layer consisting of SiC of 1-10mum average layer thickness is provided on the Si-diffused intermediate layer, whereby a surface hardened layer is provided. The resultant surface coated sintered hard alloy member has the surface hardened layer which is highly resistant to abrasion at high temp. and is suited for use particularly as cutting tools and abrasion resistant tools. |
