PURPOSE:To obtain an output picture with good picture quality, by automatically selecting a dither matrix having the best picture quality for the output picture. CONSTITUTION:A readout circuit 101 reads out a threshold value element corresponding to a picture inputted to a comparison circuit 100 sequentially in one dither matrix designated at a selection signal among a plurality of dither matrix groups stored in a table circuit 102 and supplies the element to the circuit 100. A plurality of dither matrixes are stored in the circuit 102. A dither matrix selection circuit 106 checks for the output signal of a Fourier conversion circuit 105 while the type of dither table read out at the circuit 101 with the signal SEL suitably, a dither matrix minimizing the value is found out and the circuit 106 instructs to read out the dither matrix selected at the signal SEL to the circuit 101. |
